A New Writing Me?
It’s been a long time since I wrote a blog, and I’m not going to info-dump on you, but a LOT has been happening, some good, some not so good.
I feel quite guilty if I’m honest, as so many of you have been so kind supporting me in trying to get my writing career off the ground, and I’ve announced - and started - quite a few projects which I’d hoped to deliver but which I haven’t, as yet.
In the past year I have moved house, been getting my legal consulting business off the ground after the Pandemic devastated it, and helping to take care of my family - the reason I located to Leicester, in the heart of the East Midlands region of the UK and the city where I was born.
Those of you who know me will know how stressful all this has been, but you’ll also know how seismic the last year has been for my writing.
One of the best things to happen to me in years is joining Leicester Writers Club in September 2022.
This has not only gifted me the most amazing group of new friends, but has, for the first time, exposed me to the notion of the writers’ workshop.
Every week we have a ‘manuscript meeting’, where we can take along a story, a poem, part of a play or screenplay or some of a novel, a novella or microfiction. We read out our work and others comment upon it, with honesty and respect.
LWC has been a humbling experience if I’m honest. Mostly, I’ve been learning how little I really know, but I’ve also been encouraged by much of the response.
The net-net is that it has caused me to rethink my whole writing trajectory, in the process putting on ice my previous projects in favour of new and - I think - better work.
So, for now, it’s a Watch This Space. I’ll post more as the journey continues towards a new writing Me.
